Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Basic Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.74%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Oi SA (SA:OIBR4), which rose 6.59% or 0.38 points to trade at 6.15 at the close. Meanwhile, Klabin Unt (SA:KLBN11) added 2.99% or 0.58 points to end at 19.95 and Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5) was up 2.60% or 0.38 points to 14.97 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3), which fell 8.90% or 0.72 points to trade at 7.37 at the close. Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) declined 6.09% or 0.60 points to end at 9.26 and Light SA (SA:LIGT3) was down 5.62% or 1.04 points to 17.48.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 149 to 118 and 4 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 3.67% to 29.63 a new 6-months low.
Gold for June delivery was up 1.93% or 23.00 to $1215.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.08% or 0.66 to hit $60.09 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 0.09% or 0.12 to trade at $135.75 .
USD/BRL was up 0.46% to 3.0345, while EUR/BRL rose 1.64% to 3.4425.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.02% at 93.74.
