Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Auto and Banking sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.08%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.16%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which rose 4.13% or 18.55 points to trade at 467.25 at the close. Meanwhile, Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) added 3.55% or 48.15 points to end at 1,405.50 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was up 3.52% or 21.30 points to 627.25 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which fell 1.94% or 18.70 points to trade at 945.95 at the close. Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) declined 1.91% or 173.25 points to end at 8,892.00 and Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) was down 1.85% or 53.15 points to 2,813.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 2.38% to 1,316.00, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 1.62% to settle at 314.20 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which gained 1.59% to close at 361.50.
The worst performers were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 1.77% to 2,815.00 in late trade, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which lost 1.41% to settle at 1,441.25 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 1.10% to 1,528.20 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1300 to 875 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2126 rose and 1515 declined, while 139 ended unchanged.
Shares in Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) rose to all time highs; rising 1.62% or 5.00 to 314.20.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.38% to 20.27.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.66% or 15.65 to $2,375.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.08% or 0.06 to hit $78.08 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.05% or 0.04 to trade at $82.42 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.01% to 83.51, while EUR/INR rose 0.08% to 90.41.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 104.74.
